About | Steven Whitehead

How long have you been at BCC: My family and I have been at BCC since the beginning.  We were one of the original families that broke off from Mt. Lebanon to help start BCC.  As far as a staff member, since March 2021.

Hometown (Where I grew up): Born and raised in Maryville, TN

Family: Married 19 years this September.  Wife Jennifer. Son Jackson (Sr. @ MHS, 18 y.o.). Daughter Kendall (Jr. @ MHS 16 y.o.). Our dog Piper (Frenchton, 5 y.o.).

Favorite Food: Mexican Food, particularly Los Amigos.  I've been eating there since October 6th, 1996. Yeah, I remembered the date!

Favorite Hobbies:  Working out, coaching football, loving God and Loving People

Favorite Sports Team:  Football is my #1 sport (Tampa Bay Bucs), but I also love anything College....football, baseball, softball, track and field; you name it.

What most people don’t know about me: Most people don't know why I have a long beard.  Most people probably look at me and think "why does a teacher, football coach, church staff member (very public prominent positions) look like a member of Duck Dynasty...?" But my beard is a physical representation of a commitment that I have with God.  There is a prayer request that I have prayed for specifically, every day for roughly 4 years and I refuse to shave during this time.  It constantly reminds me of that particular prayer commitment.  I will shave whenever I feel it's time.

What am I reading: Everyone's A Theologian by R.C. Sproul....but I sporadically read anything by C.H. Spurgeon, Martin Luther, J.I. Packer, John Piper

What is currently on my playlist: Musically, it is some old school Third Day, Crowder, Ghost Ship, and Demon Hunters.  Podcasts would be Matt Chandler (pastor at The Village Church), and get this....English renderings of C.H.Spurgeon's sermons.

Life Verse: I have two....Galatians 2:20 "For I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." And then Galatians 6:14 "May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world."

Favorite Bible Story: Oh wow....when I think of bible stories, my mind immediately goes to Gideon or maybe Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; and many others....but there's one that has been very instrumental to me.  It's fairly unfamiliar.  It is in Acts, when Peter and the other apostles were detained for spreading the gospel.  Those that were responsible for their detainment seeked councilf from a pharisee named Gamaliel (a teacher of the law), and he was asked what to do with these men and his reply was simply, "leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail.  But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God."  As you can see, it hasn't failed.
